Reclaimed wood · Detroit · Est. 2011

Cutting boards with a past, built for a lifetime.

We salvage hardwood from the careful deconstruction of Detroit homes and give it a second life as heirloom end-grain butcher block. Each board is stamped with its project number, so the story of the wood travels with it.

Why end grain

Tougher on bacteria. Gentler on your knives.

End-grain construction stands the wood fibers on end like a bundle of straws. Knife edges slip between the fibers instead of slicing across them — so the board self-heals, lasts for decades, and keeps your blades sharp.

Every board is seasoned with several coats of food-safe mineral oil and finished by hand here in Detroit.

Detroit roots

Wood reclaimed, history kept

Founded in a two-car garage, The End Grain Woodworking Co turns the bones of deconstructed Detroit homes into objects made to be used every day. Tell us about a custom piece — we'd love to build it.
